Protecting the State’s highway bridges through a collaboration between CRPs and the WV Division of Highways
One of the many duties of the state Division of Highways is maintaining and protecting thousands of bridges throughout the state. There are approximately 36,000 miles of state-maintained highways, and along the way, nearly 7,000 bridges. Truck drivers of wide loads and over-sized loads must follow protocol and cross bridges using certain patterns and speeds.
Community Rehabilitation Programs are often called on by the DOH to monitor these protocols. Empowerment Through Employment, Inc. in Harrison County handles the dispatching service. Other Community Rehabilitation Programs in different parts of the state also provide staffing for bridge monitoring.
